Another 8 hour shift in the books. I currently work a normal retail job for a clothing brand that resides at a sort of intersection between "fast fashion" and "luxury." While the apparel for sale definitely reaches a high price point, I am unsure if it deserves such a valuing. This brand also has a rather terrible return policy, where items can only be exchanged for either another item or store credit. While such a policy makes sense for perishable items, having such a policy for clothes, especially ones with such a hefty price tag, seems rather underhanded. My duties include operating the cash register, grabbing different sizes for customers, and keeping myself busy with general menial tasks like straightening items and restocking impulse purchases. The store uses a different name for the latter, but that is what they are. I used to despise this aspect of retail work, where you are expected to assign yourself various tasks throughout the day in order to "keep busy," but I've learned to like it because I can just assign myself easy ones. The pay is decent, nothing special. The main benefit of the job are my coworkers. I work with cool people that are fun to interact with. The only place that might have had better coworkers was the movie theater, but even then it may be a tie. Good human interactions go a long way in making any experience, no matter how dismal, a good one.
