I've been greatly enjoying Pokemon TCGP recently. I've always loved Pokemon. I personally grew up with Gen 3 and fondly remember playing sapphire and emerald. Opening packs and collecting rare cards of my favorite characters from such a special series brings me great joy. My favorite thing about the app is that you don't have to play the game in order to open your packs; you get them just for logging in! In almost every other f2p TCG game, such as Hearthstone or Yugioh Master Duel, you have to slog through a series of daily quests in order to gain currency, which you can then use to open packs. None of that applies with PTCGP. This is a good thing too, because I think the actual Pokemon TCG gameplay is far worse than its competitors. The mechanics concerning pack opening has probably the biggest effect on player experience, and it's interesting to see a company finally realize this and start to make changes. I used to be really into TCGs in the past, and Pokemon was never my first choice. Yugioh has always had my heart, both aesthetic-wise and gameplay-wise. The card designs, from Blue Eyes White Dragon to Live Twins, scratch this itch in my brain that no other can reach. I hope more companies follow Pokemon TCGP's example with regards to pack mechanics.
