Came home from work and spent too much time reading! I almost had no time for a blog post. I'm typing this one up super quick before I head to bed. I love this new section of the book. It was great seeing Kolya and Alyosha interact; their personalities play wonderfully off each other. Furthermore, it warmed my heart to see the excitement Kolya took in cheering up his friend Illyusha, whom he had a rather eventful falling out with. I read in the translator's note at the beginning of the book that Dostoevsky originally intended The Brothers Karamazov to be a book about children. With this in mind, I imagine this section was probably one of his favorites. He was able to capture every aspect of childhood with such accuracy, from the boundless energy and joy to those beginning stresses regarding relationships and status. I imagine there will be some heavy and sad moments in the book coming up, but one must enjoy the lighthearted ones when they can, just as it is with life! The Brothers Karamazov truly does deserve its reputation and so much more.
