I started on the new section today. This one concerns the mysterious third Karamazov brother Ivan, someone who hasn't appeared too much up until now but has stolen the show whenever he has, and I can already tell this one is going to be much heavier than the last. I'm approaching the ending of the book, and I can feel everything start to tie together. Not really too much happened so far, so there's not really much to talk about. Alyosha goes to visit Grushenka 2 months after Mitya arrest and learns of a secret that's been kept from him. I feel that even though it was revealed in such a casual manner, this secret will prove the focal point for much of the section and will bring a lot of loose ends together. Dostoevsky excels at building tension slowly up to a big payoff. The payoffs so far have all been outstanding: The Grand Inquisitor in the first part of the book and the Mitya section in the middle. He has this natural rhythm in his writing as well, where he'll have lighthearted subject matter after a particular heavy payoff. All writers do all these things of course, but Dostoevksy does them extremely well. I was able to tell exactly which sections are meant to do what. And that's not to say Dostoevksy writes in a very robotic and algorithmic sort of way. It all feels very natural, like he didn't do it on purpose but just set out to write and it all lined up. I'm gushing alot, but his writing really does get me.
I don't think I had a section about my day in the last post. Honestly, I'm a pretty simple and boring person, so these are a little hard to write. Today, I went to the gym and hit shoulders and arms. I've been wanting to get a button up shirt lately, so I went to a mall near the gym to do some shopping before I went home. I found this really good one that fit well at uniqlo. I was so excited to wear it I threw it in the wash as soon as I got home, and it ended up coming out of the dryer completely wrinkled. A little bit of a bummer. Will have to add a clothes steamer to the shopping list. I ate a poke bowl for lunch and pizza for dinner. As far as days go, there's not really much more I need.
